This new Pabay FDC and Stamps records the first landing of an aircraft  on a moving ship on 2nd August 1917.

Squadron Commander Edwin Harris Dunning landed his Sopwith Pup on a special flight deck contructed on HMS Furious whilst steaming in Scapa Flow off the Island of Orkney. Unfortunately on his second attempt on 7th August 1917 his aircraft was caught in an up draught throwing his plane overboard. Dunning was knocked unconscious and he drowned in his cockpit.
